“EMDR really worked. Dr. Messic really made a difference in my life,” -
J, a 32 year old female client, Chula Vista

“This is the only time in my life that therapy has made a difference, after almost 20 years of seeking help!  I have my own life now,” - anonymous response to a client satisfaction survey

Making change is hard. Making change that lasts is harder. Selecting the right therapist for you and most effective process to help is important and can make changing easier. True healing and real, lasting change is possible, with the right therapist, support and treatment. Starting with a thorough assessment, we develop a plan together based on your goals, needs and strengths.

Whether it is a particular behavior such as drinking, a persistent disturbing or limiting past experience or thought, or a feeling such as anxiety or depression, deciding if you indeed do have a problem is not easy. Most people are plagued with doubts and uncertainties when trying to answer that question. They vacillate between “yes it is a problem,” and “No it is not really a problem.” I can help you sort out your answer to that important question.

Most of us are not really sure the best way to go about making the change we desire once we decide that something is indeed a problem for us. “I want to change this, but I don’t know how.” Together we formulate a clear plan that is most likely to produce the results you want. Sure, it takes work. But with the right plan, the work really pays off.

Once you have made the changes you want, how do you sustain those changes so they last over the long run? It takes a different plan and a different set of skills to sustain the gains you have made. We work together to customize that plan for you for lasting change.

My experience with EMDR
EMDR provides a means to process past painful issues that is effective – it works – efficient – it doesn’t take years of therapy – and results last. One of the earliest clinicians to receive training in EMDR, I was first trained by Francine Shapiro, Ph.D., in 1991, in both basic and advanced training levels. Since then, I have received continued training and consultation. I am an Approved Consultant and Certified Therapist in EMDR. I use EMDR as an effective tool daily in my private practice. I have experienced the power of EMDR to help clients:

  • Resolve fears and reduce anxiety and panic
  • Process upsetting and distressing past issues, including childhood trauma
  • Get along better with others and enhance relationships
  • Reduce cravings for drugs and/or alcohol, and promote their recovery
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Stop smoking
  • Minimize chronic pain, including migraines
  • Achieve weight loss goals
  • Work for children as young as 3 years old
  • Work with hurting, angry, confused, uncommunicative adolescents
